Research Paper Quick Check

Startling and informative opening

  • Eight-action memo, Action D, and Action F. Three plans straight from the government that would bring the United States into WWII and kill millions of people in the long run. Those sort of things, even if they’re put into action, are kept from public eye so we don’t see the back-stabbing side of the United States Government.

Quick summary of main question that I mean to answer or reason I think this topic is important

  • Pearl Harbor, in many ways, could have been avoided. The United States has a real problem with being in everyone’s business. My best summary of how Pearl Harbor could have been avoided, or prevented, is for Roosevelt to stop trying to get his nose into the Chinese and Japanese war. Because of he didn’t want Japan fighting china, he decided to try and weaken the Japanese empire. That, in itself, pushed an attack.

Two or three most interesting things I learned from research

  • From my research, I have learned that history, as the old saying goes, can repeat itself. A very recent example is the problem in Venezuela. Because of our criticism against Hugo Chavez and his plans for Nuclear power, he had completely cut off oil trades with us. If we didn’t say anything to them, we wouldn’t be in that big of an oil crisis and our economy could be better. Another thing I have learned is that the United States, as I’ve said before, always likes be in other peoples business. If we didn’t interfere with half of the problems we have, such as Pearl Harbor/ WWII, Vietnam, oil crises, the missile crisis in Cuba, and the weapons of mass destruction problem in the Middle East. Otherwise we wouldn’t be in those types of wars, and the rest of the world probably wouldn’t hate us. Peace and loyalty is something worth trying, which is a conclusion I can come to from this.

Confirmation or rejection of one or two commonly held beliefs about this topic

  • It is accepted all over the nation that Pearl Harbor was completely out of the blue. It’s what the people believe, and its what the schools teach. But the fact of the matter is that Roosevelt had been poking at the Japanese empire for a while before the Pearl Harbor attack occurred. He had decided that it was necessary to embargo all trades with Japan, which would lead to a much weaker economy. We were purposely helping the Chinese in the war and the Japanese had enough. The Pearl Harbor attack was not a surprise attack that was completely un-called for. It was Japan’s way of saying “Stay out of our business. We mean it.”

Something to connect the topic to the reader's life so that he/she will care

  • Imagine the Government that is protecting you. The one that tells you everything is alright. The one that keeps your freedom alive. The one that gets you jobs, and tries to keep the economy up for your sake. Power to the people. The same Government that you trust for all of this has decided that they want war at all costs. Now, the Government that was once doing all these great things for you has now provoked an attack killing more than 3,500 people. On top of this, one of your family members was at the location of the attack. It's a devastating thing to think about. But the sad thing is, many families had this same thing happen to them. And Big brother kept the truth away from them. Thousands of families could have been saved the grief.

A closing surprise...intriguing fact, quotation, or discovery from my own research

  • America couldn’t possibly sacrifice the lives of innocent Americans for war, right?

“Sooner or later, the Japanese would commit an overt act against the United States and the nation would willingly enter the war.” –Franklin D. Roosevelt

Think of that quote the next time you think so.
